Beverly Rella

It was a snowy December day as Beverly (Bev) Rella was returning from Bloomington, Ind. As she approached a set of railroad tracks, a dump truck driver slammed on his breaks and veered into Rella's lane, causing a serious collision. When Bev was asked where she wanted to go to receive care, she knew Methodist Hospital was the best choice. "I thought 'I have a racecar driver accident, I need to go to Methodist,'" she recalls.

During her three weeks and four surgeries at Methodist, Bev had a muscle removed from her back and placed in her ankle, which had sustained the most severe injury from the accident. After a year of physical therapy, she says that other than the scar on her ankle, you'd never know she had an accident. "What I remember of the transplant unit is that the nurses were very professional and caring," Bev said. "I am a testament to the incredible talent of the doctors and nurses and everyone who played a part in my care. They do fantastic work."

Bev's experience is indicative of the high quality of critical care provided by Methodist Hospital. Thanks, in part, to the Methodist Health Foundation's priority to fund the Transplant Center of Excellence, Bev can live an active life. And, thanks also, in part, to Bev's generous personal support of the Center through the Foundation, Methodist Hospital will continue to find new and innovative ways to serve those in need.
